This Gross Motor tip is for the 24-36 month old age group.

A two year old child will experiment with balance while walking, running, riding or any form of movement.  Most likely, you will observe several instances in which your child will lose their balance and fall.

As gross motor skills develop, your child will move out of experimenting with balance and master it with increasing accuracy.

To encourage gross motor development, utilize parallel talk or a play by play of your child's actions.  Model motor skills whenever possible with added self talk, or play by play of your actions.  This will draw attention to appropriate movements your child can copy.
